Hello All!
Well fasting is much tougher than I had anticipated. First day wasn't that hard though I did find myself thinking of food, how could you not right? The second day was even harder not initially however Rose and I need to grocery shop for more produce and also for Mikey and Grammy. So we went the Little Italy Farmers Market where they were bbq-ing and trying to hand us free tasty samples. We managed to escape without an eating blunder. Our next trip was to Trader Joe's for ready to eat foods for G and M. Beef taquitos, spinach lasagna, quessidillaa aye aye aye! Kung Pao bowls Pad Thai....was this fair to do when we were subsisting on VERY DELICIOUS juice but juice nonetheless. When we got home I was freezing cold so I put on pants and a hoody to go with my ski cap...it wasn't enough I took hot baths trying to get my body temperature normal and for 5-10 minutes after I would get out I would be fine...but then surely but slowly I would be shaking. Another thing was that I felt as though I had no brain and that I was confused and sorta dizzy. Around 5pm on Saturday Rose and I decided to end our fast, we went to a salad place and ate. We didn't go as hog wild as we could've, though we ate some dairy and wheat. It helped so much. My body was back to it's normal temp though it took a very long time to not feel so out of it. Sunday was a much better day. We resumed our vegan diet and our exercise routine. Monday we stepped up our circuit training and added another set of three rendering us sore today. I still feel like a detoxing and a cleanse took place though it was a much shorter on then I had anticipated. I'm still passing the toxins through it feels. All and all I feel as though I set into motion for my body a spring cleaning of sorts. Today I have been feeling as though I might be coming down with something. I know down deep its those dirty lil bastards still trying to leave me...so mentally I'm setting them free. I will try fasting again very soon. This time I will shoot for 2 full days. So next thing I will do (probably tomorrow) is devise a more powerful workout routine. I'm excited about getting serious about it again. More to come tomorrow. Also I don't look at the fast breaking as a failure I look at it as another reason to keep trying! Peace and Love!

1st day of the juice fast!
The big day is finally here! I have prepared for nearly a week, and I am here in the midst of it now. I woke this morning (in a very bad mood which has nothing to do with the fast) excited to use the juicer for the first time and change many pounds of produce into delicious nutritious juice. I gathered carrots, apples, spinach, green beans, mung bean sprouts, lemon and ginger. Breakfast juice was carrot, apple, spinach, mung bean, with a wedge of lemon. You see I am a huge fan of fruits but I think I enjoy veggies even more so eating or drinking greens isn't that uncommon for me. This is a very tasty comb (short for combo) of produce. Then I made lunch juice which is apple, carrot, GREEN BEANS, ginger, lemon. I really love greens in my juice. I love wheat grass which is what the green beans when juiced remind me of. So far it seems I made plenty for are breakfast/lunch and to rotate in between water. I have a small bladder...in fact it's pee size. Drinking all this liquid is enhancing my already extreme bathroom runs. We added the psyllium/bentonite to our lunch juice hopefully it will wait till we are home to work it's magic. I see though that it is a really important ingredient in this fast because I am so full from lunch. In fact I honestly haven't been hungry all day. My only issue as of now (besides incredibly frequent urination) is how tired I feel. No coffee no fat burner equals me coming down. Other than the yawning and the near falling asleep at my desk, or staring into space with heavy eyelids, this is going great. If I did potentially let myself dwell on all the yummy foods I'm not eating that could be torturous. However I feel proud that I have taken the time and energy to devote to my own sense of well being! To a cleansing of my past intakes, to preparing for my abundant future. This is defiantly a ritual of spiritual discovery. I'm looking forward to being cleansed and awakened. This is very exciting to me......I may or may not blog more today depending on how my day after work shapes up. Defiantly tomorrow there will be more. Peace and Love!

6th day of fitness, 7th day of vegan, wheatless, sugarless diet, 9th day sober!
Helllooooo!
Today I feel GREAT! I have energy, my skin is clearing up, my attitude is positive, and I even think I lost some fat! Yayayayayayayaaa!I think yesterday was a rough day for me mentally so I chose not to blog, but let me tell you it was a HOT day and after running and circuit training outdoors I thought I would surely wither. However to my surprise I was blown away by this huge wave of energy. Unlike anything I have felt naturally. I folded 4 loads of laundry for four people and put away. I did the dishes, bleach the sink, swept the whole house and cleaned the floors, I also cleaned the mirror, sink, toilet, and floors in the bathroom. Took out all the garbage and made sure Grammy and Mikey ate lunch. Is this normal for me? Not exactly. Yes I clean, everyday. Not like this though! I figured I might as well get all that out of the way so that I would not have to worry about it this weekend while fasting.
Something that I'm not looking forward to while fasting is not exercising, I think though I will try to get out and walk daily. Fresh air, getting the blood moving, and all that. Starting the day after my fast I will continue where I left off. I'm once again very excited about fitness, I just needed a solid week of it to remind me of how wonderfully it does my body, mind, and spirit!
So during my research on fasting I have learned that before cleansing other organs that the colon must be first, for many reasons. I've also learned that in order to cleanse the colon I will need to add to my juice pysillium and bentonite. This will ensure my bowels will be a moving! Unfortunately one of the websites I visited explained that when a cleansing of the colonic nature takes place that inorganic wastes that have been trapped inside you will be coming out. Then it showed pictures of peoples waste who were cleansing their colons. Aye aye aye I wish I never had seen that! Why don't they put a individual link warning you before looking so that you have a choice in the matter!?!?!! Anyhow I'm scarred for life from those pics however I'm glad I know that this is normal and I won't freak out if anything remotely similar comes out of me. OY! Mentally I've been preparing myself to somehow make it through these 5 days on liquids alone! I've have read others blogs who say they loose a lot of weight during the process, others get headaches and fell starved, others can do it for 28 days. I'm no wimp....I'm a 700 lb Siberian Tiger. I'm in control not the food! Also I want to clear out my insides. Do some house cleaning. Clean slate yada yada. I want to show myself who is truly rowing my boat. It certainly can not be all of the outside influences.....it's who is on the inside!
Ok as far as the menu goes, I've read many different things about juice fasts and most agree to NO CITRUS except for a few drops of lemon to cut the bitterness of the greens. Carrot and apples also provide that. For breakfast and lunch will be 8-12oz of juice. Dinner will be veggie or miso broth with nori. I know I will be craving something more savory. All day long I will be rotating water/juice drinking in addition to the breakfast and lunch juices. Twice a day I will add the combo of pysillium, bentonite, flax for fiber and cleansing. So to keep things as simple as I can my juices will pretty much have similar ingredients. Also everything will be in season, organic, and purchased locally from the farmers market.

During the fast I will figure out the best meal plan for the days fallowing the fast to go as easy on my system as possible and to be safe an respectful towards my body after the process of healing and cleansing. I also would like to integrate yogic breathing or meditation in to this mix. though my attempt at it last week was so lame I thought that maybe if I tried it out doors that would help so I will give it a shot tonight if I have the time if not during the fast.
So far all the challenges combined has made it very easy for me to keep my mind off drinking! Yayayaya for that! Everything together is how it is all being held together...like a cluster of goodness. I'm nervous and excited to start the fast....I have felt many hunger pangs this week, using them to try to imagine what these 5 days will be like. We shall find out! Peace and Love!

3rd day of fitness, 4th day of vegan, wheatless, sugarless diet, 6th day sober.
My home computer wouldn't connect to the internet yesterday so I was not able to blog which sucked because there were so many fresh thoughts I wanted to share and could not. It was a fabulous autumn day yesterday, cool with a longing breeze. Rose and I woke when the alarm went off put on our active gear and headed to Balboa Park. So beautiful there, running is dreamy in that setting. It was our day for a 50 minute walk/jog with a 5 minute warm up and a 5 minute cool down. We did our warm up and then proceeded to jog. Both of us are already picking up the pasting, along with having more stamina to do it several minute more than the day before. I forgot the stopwatch but it seems to me we ran for to stints of 15 and a third for 10 minutes then walked and cooled down for the remaining time. All day I felt great! However later in the evening I was ravenous so I had some snacks. Nothing that took me off the path though. I find that corn tortillas are very satisfying right now as well as organic peanut butter. Rose made a tapioca coconut blueberry dessert that was very low in fat and had only honey to sweeten it. Towards the end of the evening I began to have A LOT of soreness all over my body, my feet knees, hips. So I soaked in a long bath after two ibuprofens listening to music and just relaxing....this helped more than I can express. It was not to much later when I decided to call it a night and crawl into bed. I was expecting to wake incredibly sore especially in my legs. Thankfully I was not, it makes it so much harder to exercise when your muscles hurt. I might be tomorrow though. This morning Rose and I decided to reset the alarm and snooze a lil extra, she has one of her headaches that can become quite debilitating. Finally we woke around 830 she got ready for work I got ready to workout. I drank some water/a cup of coffee and when Rose left so did I. It was a much hotter day for running today the autumn kiss was kidnapped by the indian summer. I warmed up for 5, ran for 25 and walked/cooled down the remaining time. My face was so red from the heat but I felt in the zone which is why I think people continue to run it is very meditative. When I came home I drank down a liter of water gathered my yoga mat, dumbbell's and routine and headed to our gated back yard, its small but wonderful I call it Shangrila. Rose has her garden and it's peaceful and cool shaded by the house in the mornings. I did all three sets of circuits feeling stronger and stronger with each repetition. I remember why I like doing this in the first place it make s me feel strong and confident. It makes me feel capable, awakening my inner Tiger. After finishing my workout I realized Grammy was at the door (she lives with us and was at my Aunts for the previous night. I helped her in we made lunch my teenage brother who also lives with us woke to and we all ate together. After eating Mike and I were in my room when we heard a loud thud, I instinctively ran to Grammy's room, tried to open the door but she was laying (from a fall) in front of it. Luckily I had another way in through the jack and jill bathroom. I found her lying there bleeding from her poor little grey head, dazed by her spill. I have dealt with several of these types of situations so my response was immediate. once I got a feel for how she was and how bad her head was I had Mike help me help her to her chair where I applied pressure to her small head wound, asking her all the necessary questions to make sure she is doesn't have any concussive symptoms. What a scare this was to me...I'm not ready to loose her. Nov 1st will be two years since we picked Grammy up from the nursing home she was being left in after recovering from a stroke. I'm certain she was at the end of her rope there and probably would've died in a couple of weeks had we not brought her to live with us. I love having her live with me and now that we are all used to living together I want to have plenty of time to be with her. It was a tough road to go down a southern baptist 88 year old lady living with her lesbian granddaughter and her girlfriend Rose. So we have all come a long way and I would think are even happy now. So after Grammy's spill Rose came home she made the same thing we had last night which is an Indonesian salad with lots of cabbage carrots cucumber green beans potatoes with a coconut peanut butter sauce Delicious. The version she made for lunch had tofu in it...I really needed some protein. Brother Mike ate a BBQ chicken pizza for lunch which looked so good and was the first temptation I've had so far. Thankful he swallowed the whole thing without chewing so it wasn't around long for me to drool over. I feel great at this point, my skin has improved and I think I might have shrunk slightly, my underwear seem to fit better. So I'm a very happy camper. Rose is going to Bed bath and beyond after work tonight to bring home a Jack La lane juicer. I need to start planning my juice menu for the 5 days and my shopping list for my upcoming fast! I'm really excited to get it started though I know for sure it is going to challenge my resolve. Another thing is I have yet to do any breathing or meditation....I will tonight! Until my next entry....stay healthy!

First fitness, second day of new eating choices, 4 days sober.
Today was a good day, it's not quite over but I do believe it will continue. It was also a challenging day, though I feel proud of all my achievements and choices. Good job Tigey! In our cd alarm clock we have the cd from a renowned Buddhist named Tich Nhat Hann. It gongs a few times and then in his soft whisper of a voice he begins to lecture on love. This, does not wake me up! This is challenge numero uno. The alarm went off I got up, reset the alarm and went back to the bed. Then the thoughts came pouring in like "but you are supposed to get up to exercise" "get up!" "who are you accountable?" as I snuggled in closer to my girl an eye popped open, and from there I fought sleep till I knew both Rose and I were awakening. Bam now I just got to get on my work out clothes and get out the door. After making coffee for Rose, Grammy, and myself we left for our 30 minute walk/jog with a5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. We actually ended up doing 51 mins total. 20 minutes of it was spent running in 10 minute intervals. We came home endorphins pulsating through us drank large amounts of water, headed to the back yard and did our circuits. It was a challenging work out we fallowed from the plan to the letter. I'm already burning and sore in many areas but it feels good and my body is glad to have released all the things pent up from lack of exercise. It has been roughly 4 months since Rose and I quit the gym and working out regularly and yet I am amazed at how much strength and stamina we both have still. I was especially proud of my Rose who pulled through the workout with a positive and confident attitude about the whole event. Good job baby!
I have maintain 98% true to my preparation diet. It has been difficult though and several times I have longed for bread or cheese. And I have had moments of concern wondering what I shall feel like when I am only drinking juices. However eating this way feels good and I am not weighed down or over fed, no bloating, no discomfort. I have drank mucho aqua and am peeing continuously. Oh I did have a second cup a coffee this morning it's just such a delicious warm drink however tomorrow I will drink tea for the second cup.
I also started an ephedera free "natural" fat burner you are supposed to take two pills after breakfast and two after lunch so we started the lunch dose and both of us felt a nice boost of energy. I was quite productive doing all the laundry making lunch (salad with veggies and beans) and dinner (lentils potatoes and carrots).I also did all the dishes for the day, swept, mopped the floor, clean the stove, took out the trashes, took Grammy to get her hair done etc.
Mucho productivo!
On that note, I will have more tomarrow.

Preperation for the fast.
Today is the first day of preparation for the fast. I have not eaten anything yet, and in fact I forgot to eat and am already on my second cup of coffee...oops. I will limit myself to one cup over the weekend. For lunch I will do a salad or a veggie pho soup. Something without meat or dairy. In the mean time I will also be drinking copious amounts of water. :)
I was startled this morning....I put on my only pair of jeans that fit.....and they are too tight on me to wear comfortably. So I must put an end to my weight gain and get back in control and focused on my goals. I am going to plan out an exercise routine for each day up until the fast (it is not wise to exercise during a fast do to that whole not eating thing lol). Starting tomorrow I will exercise daily until I start my fast! This is a challenge that I will be incorporating into my life after the fast as well! I want to be fit, healthy, and look fabulous! Honestly though the effects this weight gain has on my confidence level SUCKS! Society treats chunky women differently too and I am starting to feel those results. I need to get my mind back in the game and stop all the eating of high fat CRAP in my life, regardless of what the people around me choose. I need to make the best decisions for me, not the tastiest or most convenient ones!! I will add my exercise plan soon as well as updating what I have ate today in preparation!
Ok so I ate...pho soup (pronounced fa) again today. It is a lite veggie broth with tofu, bbq tofu, rice noodles and veggies. It comes in a large serving which I usually eat the whole thing but I think it would be wise of me to cut down my portions so I only ate half. I'm nice and full though. I've been craving coffee but will not drink anymore.....water water water. Now that I caught up on some work I'm going to create the next 6 days fitness challenge.

Ok it looks like I will be busy for the next 6 days...I'm excited I really enjoy how good my body feels after this type of stimulation! I can't wait to start tomorrow, I'm even looking forward to having sore muscles again! I will be held accountable for these workouts I will do them and I will benefit from them. My plan is to wake up before work to do these workouts which means not hitting the snooze button. Also I will be using a fat burner for that extra umph in my work out until I am strong enough once again to do it all on my own. I'm not exactly sure which one I will use maybe gaurana again I don't know however I will let you know. I will not be taking the burner during the fast of course.

I'm not exactly sure which one I will use maybe gaurana again I don't know however I will let you know. I will not be taking the burner during the fast of course.

Fasting....the only way to starve!
Ok so I'm looking into fasts. There already seems to be some controversy as to weather or not this is a healthy practice or not. Here is the first of many links that I have read on the matter:
http://altmedicine.about.com/od/detoxcleansing/a/juice_fasting.htm
And from that article here are the most relevant points:
Proponents of juice fasting suggest fasting only during the warmer months of the year. Spring is thought to be the best time of the year for juice fasting.
Seven or more days before the fast, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, dairy, wheat, animal meat, fish, and eggs are typically reduced or eliminated from the diet. This preparation diet often consists mainly of organic fruits, vegetables, and beans.
Between 32 and 64 ounces of juice is usually recommended per day during the fast. The juice is sipped throughout the day. Typical fruits and vegetables include celery, carrot, kale, cabbage, apple, pineapple, cranberry, spinach, beet, and greens. Citrus fruits are often avoided.
Approximately 6 glasses of room temperature or warm filtered water is often recommended in addition to the juice.
Organic fruits and vegetables are usually recommended. If organic produce isn't available, practitioners suggest peeling the skin off fruits and vegetables or washing vegetables with a non-toxic produce cleaner, usually available at health food stores.
Freshly juiced fruits and vegetables are preferred, but if unavailable, practitioners suggest buying it from the health food store or juice bar as fresh as possible.
Green vegetables and sprouts contain the pigment chlorophyll, which juice proponents believe are especially beneficial during a juice fast.
A combination of fruits and vegetables is recommended.

Ancient Tradition Meets New-Age Needs
Strychacz vividly remembers his first fast -- 17 days long. "It was extraordinary, a mystical experience. I felt like I'd figured out why Jesus and Plato and Socrates and Gandhi did it -- the clarity of thought, the peacefulness."
Fasting indeed has a long-standing spiritual tradition. "Almost every religion has some type of fasting ritual -- Lent, Ramadan, Yom Kippur ... the Hindus and Buddhists fast, too," says James Dillard, MD, assistant clinical professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He's author of Alternative Medicine for Dummies.
"There's definitely a spiritual factor," Dillard tells WebMD. But he's among the skeptics. "Whether [fasting diets] have any physiological benefit, I'm not so sure."
A study of anthropology gives plenty of evidence, Page says. In Chinese medicine, fasting is part of preventive health care. For many ancient cultures, fasting helped people "lighten up" after a long winter, shed the extra winter fat layer that provided warmth.
Our bodies naturally detoxify every day, Page tells WebMD. "Detoxification is a normal body process of eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph glands, and skin," she writes in her book. "Just as our hearts beat nonstop and our lungs breathe continuously, so our metabolic processes continuously dispose of accumulated toxic matter."
OK this is interesting:
Eating less -- that's definitely known to extend life, Dillard says. "The only reliable way to extend the lifespan of a mammal is under-nutrition without malnutrition. Studies show that if you cut back on 60% of the calories mice eat, they will live almost twice as long with much fewer tumors."
WTF??? Is all the disease in this country caused by calorie overload??? Mice food is high in calorie??? JK.
As I sit here chowing down on my Delicious PHO soup, I'm entertained by thoughts of fasting. Hee hee...I'm sure I won't be thinking it's so entertaining when I am in the midst of it all. Anyway It seems there are a few diff rent ways to do this. I like the idea of drinking the juice throughout the day and then perhaps having some broth of sorts in the evening, I think I will incorporate that. Also I like taking the spiritual approach to it so I will be looking up different spirituality's who have practice fasting. More to come....
Alright not bad for a days research. One thing I want to do is point out that I am not doing this for the weight loss factor, and in fact i know that more than likely if there is any difference that it will come back quickly, but it doesn't matter that's not why I'm doing it and I wanted to stress that after reading a young ladies blog about fasting which ended up to be more of an eating disorder than a spiritual experience or an exercises in self discipline. Why I am doing this is to detoxify my innards, everything from my lungs to my liver and all those wondermous things inside me that have taken some abuse in my life....I want to give them some hope! Another reason I am doing it is to examine my own self disipline or weather or not I have any or if I can set my mind to something and see it through. Also, almost two years ago I had a colonoscopy done which requires a liquid (no juice...mostly water or broth) diet for two days before hand and then the day before you drink PhosphoSoda it is this terrible tasting stuff which virtually turns your ass into a firehose :) It was not a pleasant situation and I struggled so hard with not eating...it wasn't my choice to do this I was told by the Dr to do it! It was suffering! My beautiful girl friend of nearly 6 years was by myside the whole time fasting too...she seemed to struggle less with it because maybe it was her choice to do so. Thank you Rose! Anyway the way I felt after the fasting and severe firehosing was a very peaceful empty harmonic feeling inside me. I'm looking forward to that.
So things that are recommended for Juice fasting:
1. For the week before my fast I will reduce dairy, caffine, meat, wheat and sugar from my diet. Sticking with mainly veggies, fruits, lentils, beans organic as much as possible.
2.In the week before fasting I will come up with a variety of Juice's veggie and fruits and plan out my days consumption in advance.
3. I will also allow broths like miso soup with nori for dinner time.
4. I will also include a spiritual practice such as yogic breathing and or meditation, or evenhot baths to sweat out impurities...no worries though I will be consuming enough water to remain hydrated!
5. I will fallow this fast for 5 days.
6. I will document these events for you and me.
7. I will start a week from tomarrow October 10th 2008 until then I will be researching and reporting my findings! So I will be eliminating all of the harsher foods starting tomarrow, I will savor tonights Mexican food...yummmers!
